Axis Systems' Xtreme Verification System Adopted by Sun Microsystems

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2002--Axis Systems Inc. today announced that Sun Microsystems Inc. has purchased Axis' Xtreme verification system.

Sun, a leading provider of hardware, software and services that power enterprise and network computing, plans to integrate Xtreme into their design flow for development of Sun's next-generation microprocessors.

"Xtreme offers what we're looking for: a simulation acceleration platform with integrated debugging," said Ron Melanson, vice president of Design Engineering for Sun Microsystems, "with the added benefit of having visibility into the design at all times. This technology will complement our compute ranch-based solution for our high-end next generation processor design."

"Xtreme was tailor-made for the complex processor system designs that Sun develops regularly," said Mike Tsai, Axis president and CEO. "We're pleased that Sun has decided to use Xtreme for verification of their next-generation processors."

Based on Axis' patented ReConfigurable Computing (RCC) technology, Xtreme's event-based engine makes visible all internal signals in a design. RCC technology also powers the debugging capabilities Sun finds useful, such as VCD-on-Demand and hot swapping.

VCD-on-Demand saves the simulation history for an entire design, eliminating the need to re-simulate when a bug is found, which improves overall verification productivity. Hot swapping -- switching from software simulation to accelerated simulation and emulation -- gives designers the flexibility to debug their designs in a familiar software debugging environment while taking advantage of acceleration and emulation performance.
